FIBA Oceania bestow Patricia Ramsay award to New Caledonia's Bridget Delaveuve
GOLD COAST (Australia) - New Caledonia's Bridget Delaveuve was awarded the 2021 Patricia Ramsay Award during the 2021 FIBA Oceania Mid-term congress.
GOLD COAST (Australia) - New Caledonia's Bridget Delaveuve was awarded the 2021 Patricia Ramsay Award during the 2021 FIBA Oceania Mid-term congress.
Delaveuve is currently the Secretary-General of the New Caledonian Basketball Federation, she has served in the position since 2012.
"I am very surprised with this award that was given to me and very honored to accept it. Thank you so much to everyone, usually, I'm not at a loss for words. I want to thank everyone that has supported me, I love to volunteer my time and help out because I love the game of basketball," shared Delaveuve.
FIBA Oceania Executive Director David Crocker praised Delaveuve for her contributions to the growth of basketball in New Caledonia and the Pacific region.
"Bridget's unbridled passion for the game has helped New Caledonia basketball to great heights. Their astounding growth over the past years is evidenced by the successful hosting of the 2019 FIBA U17 Oceania Championships in Noumea," he said.
"Since then, New Caledonia has also transitioned 3x3 flawlessly into their national programs which have seen a rapid growth in the last couple of years," he added.
Delaveuve has also been part of the Federation's board since 2007 and served as a board member of the New Caledonia National Olympic Committee from 2013 to 2019.
She is also the active President of the As6ème km Basketball club for 21 years and has been a vital cog in the grassroots and women in basketball programs in her country.
The New Caledonian native traveled to Fiji in 2016 to work and learn with the FIBA team during the FIBA U18 Championships which led to the foundation of their hosting duties of the 2019 FIBA Oceania Youth competition.
"Special people like you are the reason why we want to stay connected to the sport. Thank you so much for all the things you've done for the sport," praised FIBA Oceania President Burton Shipley.
Delaveuve’s contributions have also been recognized by France with a Gold Medal honor from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the French Republic.
The Patricia Ramsay award is named after Patricia Ramsay, the wife of FIBA Oceania Founder Al Ramsay. In her honor, FIBA Oceania established the award to recognize and honor exceptional personalities in the administrative field.
