FIBA Europe gives full support to European Basketball Week

MUNICH (European Basketball Week) – FIBA Europe is once again throwing its support behind European Basketball Week, an initiative from the Special Olympics movement.

Running from November 24 to December 3, Special Olympics European Basketball Week 2017 will see the participation of more than 19,000 athletes across the continent, with more than 250 local and national basketball events taking place to mark the occasion, throughout 35 participating nations.

Among the activities will be 20 coaching seminars, whilst a number of European leagues will also include demonstration games from Special Olympic athletes, as part of half-time entertainment during league games.

This was something that FIBA also did at FIBA EuroBasket 2017, with a Special Olympics demonstration being warmly received in each of the four host nations – Finland, Israel, Romania and Turkey.

"European Basketball Week is a fantastic initiative and one that FIBA Europe is always willing to offer our full support to," commented FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak. "At FIBA, we operate along similar principles to Special Olympics, as we aspire to make basketball an all-inclusive sport, where people from every walk of life can participate."
