MIES (FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike) - The USA have kept a firm grip on the top spot in the new FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike, after winning the FIBA AmericaCup 2017

MIES (FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike) - The United States have kept a firm grip on the top spot in the new FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike, after their unbeaten, title-winning run at the FIBA AmericaCup 2017.

For the first time, the ranking is game-based instead of competition-based. As such it factors in results from official games - ranging from regional pre-qualifiers all the way to the FIBA Basketball World Cup Final - played by 149 national teams, compared to just 91 under the previous system. The innovative ranking can and will be updated after every window of Qualifiers and following the conclusion of top official FIBA competitions.

Following the conclusion of the Continental Cups 2017, the Americans are a clear No. 1 in the ranking with 819.6 points ahead of No. 2 Spain (693.2), No. 3 Serbia (641.0) and No. 4 France (634.9).

    ...

Argentina, who lost to the USA in the AmeriCup Final, have leapfrogged Lithuania into fifth place although their 616 ranking points are marginally better than the Baltic side, which is No 6 with 615.

The biggest jump into the top 10 was made by Slovenia after the Goran Dragic-led side went undefeated at FIBA EuroBasket 2017.

    ...

The Slovenians won the title for the first time and climbed six places to No. 7 while Croatia moved up three rungs to No. 8.

Australia went unbeaten at the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 in Beirut and moved up one spot to No. 9 while Brazil slipped three spots to No. 10.

Turkey and Venezuela each had the biggest falls in the Top 20, dropping five points each to No. 13 and No. 20, respectively.

EuroBasket Quarter-Finalists Italy and Round of 16 side Ukraine each rose 19 places and are now No. 16 and No. 19, respectively, while Latvia - who exited the tournament after a narrow defeat to eventual champions Slovenia in the Last Eight - jumped 17 places to No. 18.

    ...

China, beaten by Australia in the Quarter-Finals of the Asia Cup, dropped 10 places to No. 25. Nigeria suffered a similar fall, going from 16 down to 26 after they failed to successfully defend their title, losing the AfroBasket 2017 Final to hosts Tunisia. However, the D'Tigers remain the highest ranked African side.

The biggest climber in the top 50 was the Netherlands, who rocketed 38 spots up the ladder to No. 46.

Iran climbed three places to No. 22 after finishing second at FIBA Asia Cup 2017
