MUNICH (Germany) - Thomas Scrubb and Pallacanestro Varese saw their path to the FIBA Europe Cup title cut short by s.Oliver Wurzburg in the Semi-Finals, but went out of the competition in honorable fashion despite a second-leg defeat on the road.
The 27-year-old Canada international claimed the Top Performer accolades to headline the Team of the Week after collecting a season-high 29 points in a losing effort, as the Italian side inscribed an 89-86 loss that ended their European campaign.
Having gone 10-of-15 from the field and a perfect 9-of-9 from the stripe, Scrubb also notched down 4 rebounds and added a block to finish with a competition-best 29 efficiency this week, as Varese nearly erased a double-digit deficit to get a symbolic win.
On the other end of the floor, it was Australian forward Xavier Cooks leading a well-rounded Wurzburg effort. The 23-year-old breakout star from down under had his fingerprints all over the ball game with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocks.
The remaining three spots on the Team of the Week were filled by Dinamo Sassari players Achille Polonara, Rashawn Thomas and Jaime Smith, who put on a show at the Palasport Roberta Serradimigni with a thoroughly dominant 105-75 victory over UNET Holon.
Having made a mark on the game with an extended list of spectacular plays, Polonara had the highest efficiency mark, 23, among the trio with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a block to his name.
Thomas registered his third double-double of the season in the FIBA Europe Cup with a 16-point, 12-rebound and 3-assist performance, while Jaime Smith was close to his first, scoring 9 points, dishing out 10 assists and grabbing 3 rebounds.
