Avtodor lead man Buford torches Pardubice to headline Top Performers
MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) – There wasn't much BK JIP Pardubice could do to stop Avtodor Saratov in a record-breaking night for the Russian side, but no one hurt the Czechs more than Perrin Buford.
MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) – There wasn't much BK JIP Pardubice could do to stop Avtodor Saratov in a record-breaking night for the Russian side, but no one hurt the Czechs more than Perrin Buford.
Having already entered his name in the FIBA Europe Cup record books earlier in the season, the 24-year-old American earned the Top Performer honors for the second time in the 2018-19 campaign.
In a game to remember, Buford collected 31 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a pair of blocks for a total efficiency score of 38, as Avtodor broke the long-standing competition single-game scoring record in a 129-91 victory against the visiting Pardubice side.
"This was a fun and exciting game, with us scoring so many points," Buford offered in the post-game press conference. "This was a good way to respond to three straight losses for our club. This win should give us confidence and we have to keep up the momentum in the next games."
His teammate Trae Golden earned a spot on the Team of the Week after contributing 22 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, 4 rebounds and 8 assists without a single turnover in the historic victory.
While he fell short of challenging the Avtodor duo in terms of efficiency, Alba Fehervar guard Allerik Freeman made sure the Hungarian side stayed undefeated in Group F with a game-high 27 points and 8 assists in a convincing 104-83 triumph over Rilski Sportist.
Only the sixth player to surpass the 30-point mark in a FIBA Europe Cup game this season, Stefan Moody paced Tsmoki-Minsk to an 84-73 win against Balkan Botevgrad with 31 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal and a block each.
Completing the undersized Team of the Week lineup, Bakken Bears forward Darko Jukic was the star of the show in a 121-89 demolition job against the visiting Cherkaski Mavpy, as the Denmark international scored 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.
