    All you need to know: FIBA U20 EuroBasket 2024

    The future stars of international basketball will converge in Poland for the FIBA U20 EuroBasket tournament this summer.

    GDYNIA (Poland) - The future stars of international basketball will converge in Poland for the FIBA U20 EuroBasket tournament this summer.

    The event takes place in Gdynia, Poland from July 13-21.

    Who is participating?

    A total of 16 teams will compete for the prestigious U20 EuroBasket crown. They have been split into four groups of four. The Group Phase is as follows:

    Group A: Greece, France, Poland, Serbia Group B: Germany, Israel, Czechia, Italy Group C: Turkiye, Spain, North Macedonia, Belgium Group D: Montenegro, Lithuania, Iceland, Slovenia

    What is the schedule?

    The Group Phase will take place across the opening three days of the tournament before a rest day on July 16, with teams seeded for the Round of 16 stage based on their group position. The competition will continue in the form of the bracket until the Final on July 21 with Classification Games also determining each of the 16 positions.

    Greece cannot be relegated as they will host the 2025 edition - if they finish between 14th-16th, then only two teams will earn promotion from Division B.

    Who were the winners in 2023?

    France ended a 13-year wait for success as they lifted the European trophy for the second time in this age bracket with a thrilling 89-79 overtime win over Israel. The energetic Ilias Kamardine paced The French with 23 points, 7 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks to cap off an unbeaten tournament.

    Croatia and Estonia were relegated and dropped into Division B. Poland, who finished in the bottom two, were spared moving down due to hosting this summer's event.

    Former MVPs

    Kamardine lived up to his title of one of the best young guards in France by scooping MVP honors last summer in Crete. He led his team in points, posting 14 per game on a sublime 53.1 percent from the floor as well as 2.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

    Roll of honor

    Serbia are still the top team at U20 level with more titles than any other nation. Spain and Greece will look to match Serbia's total of four golds this summer, though Spain still have the most overall podium finishes with 14.
