HERAKLION (Greece) - Juste Jocyte is not only celebrating a stellar gold medal success with Lithuania, but also individual glory after being named MVP of the FIBA U18 Women's European Championship.
Although just 16 years old, the Lithuanian young star showed why she is a major star in the making after carrying her team to only their second-ever title. Jocyte was massive not only in the absorbing 78-75 Final success over Spain, but throughout the competition. She finished as the leading scorer in the tournament with 19.1 points per game, also adding 7.1 rebounds and 6.9 assists per outing.
While Elena Buenavida Estevez didn't come out with the gold medal, she could barely have done more to take her country to the title after her epic 36 points in the Final. This contributed to her being Spain's leading scorer in the competition.
Leila Lacan held down a spot for her eye-catching contributions for France, including an excellent 20 points and 7 rebounds in the Third-Place game that cemented her team a bronze medal. She was also second in the tournament for steals.
Frieda Buhner was rewarded for propelling Germany to the Semi-Finals. She led her team in efficiency, points and boards - finishing as the best rebounder in the tournament with 11.1 per game.
Finally, Matilde Villa was recognized for taking Italy to a top five finish, thanks mainly to her 18.7 points per game which was the second best in the tournament.
