NIS (Serbia) - The FIBA U18 European Championship is one of 16 youth events that will take place across the summer of 2023.
The tournament will take place in Nis, Serbia from July 22-30, 2023.
Who is participating?
A total of 16 teams will compete for the title in Division A. They have been split into four groups of four for the Group Phase as follows:
Group A: Israel, Sweden, France, Lithuania
Group B: Croatia, Poland, Turkey, Germany
Group C: Finland, Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovenia
Group D: Greece, Denmark, Spain, Italy
What is the schedule?
The Group Phase will take place across the opening three days of the tournament with a rest day on July 25, as teams will be seeded for the Round of 16 stage based on their group position. The competition will continue in the form of the bracket until the Final on July 30 with Classification games also determining each of the 16 positions.

Who were the winners in 2022?
Spain retained the title in 2022 after defeating Turkey 68-61 in the Final in Izmir, Turkey. Rafael Villar had a team-high 20 points, along with 5 assists, 4 steals and 3 rebounds, while Izan Almansa finished with a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double. Turkey had three players in double figures in defeat.

North Macedonia, Great Britain and Montenegro were relegated from last year's edition, so the promoted trio of Sweden, Denmark and Finland from Division B will take their spots.
Former MVPs
Izan Almansa took home the MVP after finishing the tournament averaging 15.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. He also shot an efficient 61.7 percent from the field.

Roll of honor
Spain's title in 2022 was their second consecutive after winning the previous competition in 2019. They became the fourth country to win five gold medals at the event, joining Soviet Union, Yugoslavia and Serbia.
