The home side took a 70-52 win as Wadoux harvested 18 points to give the locals an immediate reason to cheer - with the crowd containing senior head coach Valerie Garnier and another ex-Bourges favorite in former Les Bleues center, Emmeline Ndongue.

Reigning champions Spain were dominant as they tipped off their title defense with a 85-36 success against Lithuania, the excellent 8 of 9 shooting display by Marta Garcia the highlight as she coralled 18 points.
Last year's silver medalists Germany collected a 79-54 derby triumph against Netherlands, while Russia captain Veronika Pavliuchenko was outstanding with 17 points and 15 boards against Poland in a 65-44 victory.
Romania took their first footsteps in Division A at the event, but were swept aside 80-47 by Hungary as Dorina Szirony racked up a perfect shooting effort with 7 of 7 from the floor. There was also opening day joy for Latvia, Croatia and Italy who also got off to a winning start.
