NICOSIA (Cyprus) - There was double joy for Anne Simon at the FIBA Women's European Championship for Small Countries after being named MVP having helped lead Luxembourg to the title.
Simon was held to 4 points in the 10-point Final triumph, but played a major role in the earlier stages and finished with tournament averages of 13.5 points along with 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
The 21-year-old was joined in the lineup by teammate Nadia Mossong with the veteran forward posting a double-double in the Final to boost her overall numbers to 13.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists across the four games.
Claire Melia earned a spot after leading Ireland with 12.0 points, 8.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists as they came up short in the Final once again. The 22-year-old had recorded a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds in the Group Phase win against Malta.
There were also places on the team for the tournament's two leading scorers. Alexis Tolefree impressed with 19.3 points per game for Kosovo having led her side to an opening success with a dramatic game-winning three, while Stavroula Koniali starred on home soil with 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game for Cyprus.
