MERSIN (Turkey) - Athletes are often revered for their efforts and accomplishments on the court, but CBK Mersin Yenisehir Bld star Chelsea Gray believes role model status is about more than basketball.

MERSIN (Turkey) - Athletes are often revered for their efforts and accomplishments on the court, but CBK Mersin Yenisehir Bld star Chelsea Gray believes role model status is about more than basketball.

Currently in red-hot form having played a major role in catapulting her team to a historic first ever Final Four spot, all eyes have certainly been on the bonafide MVP contender who's racked up more than 16 points and 6 assists per game.

"ONE OF THE BIG POINTS NOW IN SPORT IS THAT WHEN PEOPLE LOOK AT YOU PLAYING, THEY FEEL SOMETHING. CHELSEA IS THIS KIND OF PLAYER." - Roberto Iniguez

As part of the Proudly Woman series focused on EuroLeague Women players, the American guard has been speaking about how being herself while balling overseas and living with her wife is hugely important.

"I think I am an inspiration just living out my true self," Gray stated.

"Living here and being with a woman - a black woman, playing overseas, loving it, playing basketball and just enjoying life. I think the younger generation see that and aspire to be in those shoes."

The ability to make a positive impression is certainly something that her colleagues in Mersin would testify to and none more so than head coach Roberto Iniguez, who is a huge fan of her efforts and the impact she has on others.

Gray celebrated making a first Final Four with her team

"I don't have to talk too much about how she is on the court, because everybody is looking at her, at what she is doing and how she plays," mused the playcaller.

"One of the big points now in sport is that when the people look at you playing, they feel something. Chelsea is this kind of player - she is giving the people emotions" he added.

Also praised by backcourt partner Tiffany Hayes, there is little doubt that Gray has gained the respect and admiration of many at CBK Mersin Yenisehir Bld. And, with the Final Four now less than two weeks away, she could become a whole lot more popular if she helps to take the precious silverware back to Mersin.
