MUNICH (Germany) - The two rescheduled EuroLeague Women Gameday 14 games in Ljubljana, Slovenia will not take place after Sopron Basket and TTT Riga officially informed FIBA Europe they would not be travelling, citing health concerns related to the coronavirus outbreak in Italy.
As per competition regulations, the case will now be referred to the Single Judge who will examine the details to make a ruling regarding the outcome of the games.
Due to exceptional circumstances in Northern Italy, the two games – Reyer Venezia vs TTT Riga and Famila Schio vs Sopron Basket – had been rescheduled to February 27, 2020 and moved to Ljubljana, Slovenia.
In consultation with all four clubs involved and their National Federations and following official statements of the state authorities in Italy, Hungary and Latvia, FIBA Europe took swift measures and sought the best available solution for the health and safety of the teams and the smooth running of the competition.
On its own costs and considering the ease of travel for the clubs involved, FIBA Europe, in cooperation with the National Federation of Slovenia, organized another venue in a safe environment on neutral soil in the city of Ljubljana.
Keeping the interests of the stakeholders involved, FIBA Europe will continue to monitor the situation regarding public health and safety in Europe.
