PRAGUE (Czech Republic) - The EuroLeague Women Defensive Player of the Year award has been claimed by Alyssa Thomas following another scorching campaign with ZVVZ USK Praha.
The American forward was once again a major weapon at both ends of the floor for the Czech side, but was particularly dominant defensively and that is where her work has been recognized.
Thomas was central to another terrific Regular Season for her team as they raced to second place in Group A with a fine tally of 12 wins and only two losses.
She led Praha in points with 18.3 per game and completed a double-double campaign with 11.4 boards per outing, as well as an eye-catching 4.2 assists. Perhaps most impressively, Thomas topped the EuroLeague Women steals chart with 3.1 per game and was also the most efficient player in the entire competition.
Having been favored by the coaches and the media in the voting, her all-action effort helped her to pip Fenerbahce Oznur Kablo star Elizabeth Williams to the accolade, with her ZVVZ USK Praha teammate Cristina Ouvina taking third place.
Euroleague Women Awards recognize the top players and coaches of the 2019-20 Regular Season, with EuroLeague Women coaches, selected media and fans from all around the world deciding the winners.
