MUNICH (EuroLeague Women) - Roberto Iniguez has been voted coach of the season to complete the EuroLeague Women team of the season, with fans having their voices heard, via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
The Spanish playcaller steered Sopron Basket to their best international result, as the Hungarian side finished runners-up at the Final Four on home soil.
Sopron's extraordinary run did not go unnoticed, as the team proved most popular in the fan vote, with Iniguez joining three of his players, Yyonne Turner, Aleksandra Crvendakic and Jelena Milovanovic, on the team of the season.
The remaining two spots were filled by Maya Moore and Brittney Griner of 2018 champions UMMC Ekaterinburg.
Griner was unreal all season long, scoring in double digits in each of her 18 outings, finishing as the EuroLeague Women second leading scorer with her 16.9 points per game trailing only Kayla McBride's 18.7 points per game. UMMC Ekaterinburg also had a defensive wall in Griner, as she averaged a league-high 2.3 blocks per game.
The 27-year-old center finished ahead of Amanda Zahui, Sandrine Gruda and Maria Vadeeva in the voting process, being the last player to join the star lineup. The voting, which commenced last Tuesday, gave fans 24 hours to vote for each position.
Jelena Milovanovic was rewarded for her huge part in Sopron's historic season, which ended with silver medals around their necks.
The Serbian power forward knows all about winning at the highest level, and basketball runs through the Milovanovic family, with mother Ljubica also being a player and brother Nenad a basketball coach.
Milovanovic edged out Sonja Petrovic, Emma Meesseman and Nnemkadi Ogwumike in the battle of the top power forwards of the season.
The other forward spot was taken by Aleksandra Crvendakic, ahead of Valeriane Ayayi, Alba Torrens and Alysha Clarke. Check out some highlights below from Crvendakic's stellar season:
Earlier in the week, Maya Moore and Yvonne Turner earned the shooting guard and point guard spots, respectively.
Moore beat out Cecilia Zandalasini, Kayla McBride and Marine Johannes to make the team, having joined UMMC Ekaterinburg late in the season and playing a major hand in taking the Russian powerhouse to the title.
In her five games for the champions, Moore averaged 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists. She also finished with an impressive average efficiency of 23.8.
