Legendary Zirkova ends on a high note as curtain falls on Good Angels Kosice dynasty

KOSICE (EuroLeague/EuroCup Women) – It is the end of an era in more ways than one as European basketball legend Zuzana Zirkova hung up her shoes after winning a championship for Good Angels Kosice.

KOSICE (EuroLeague/EuroCup Women) – It is the end of an era in more ways than one as European basketball legend Zuzana Zirkova hung up her shoes after winning a championship for Good Angels Kosice who will cease to exist.

A juggernaut of Slovak Republic basketball, the club have announced they will no longer remain as a professional sports club and that will also mean calling time on their storied European past, having competed regularly in EuroLeague Women and most recently, in EuroCup Women.

The announcement brought tributes from players both past and present.

While a young team based on emerging talent will effectively be raised from the flames of this great club which is now no more, the fans and players were at least able to party for one last time.

They signed off by adding a final piece of silverware to the lengthy honors board with a 15th Slovak championship, eventually winning their series against MBK Ruzomberok.

Zirkova plundered 17 points in a fitting conclusion to one of the most prolific careers in Europe and rightly considered as one of the best of the modern era.

Both Zirkova and Good Angels Kosice will be sorely missed by not only those in the city itself, but by many women's basketball followers across the continent.
