LEFKADA (EuroCup Women) - There will be an immense amount of pride when Niki Lefkada make their EuroCup Women debut in coming weeks after showing plenty of ambition to further raise the profile of women's basketball in Greece.

For the first time in recent memory, the country will have two teams playing in European club competition, with Niki Lefkada joining Olympicacos.

Their arrival comes despite having to hurdle over some barriers. Most notably, the well documented economic challenges faced in Greece, along with the fact they are based on a small island in the Mediterranean with a population of less than 25,000 people.

Yet despite all of this, the club is determined to make an impact. They are not only looking forward to making a splash in their new EuroCup Women adventure, but they have also just hosted a showpiece pre-season tournament that included EuroLeague Women Qualifiers participants Reyer Venezia and Olympiacos, as well as fellow EuroCup Women entrants Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje.

Perhaps as expected, the competition was won by the Italians, with Reyer Venezia finishing top of the podium after beating the hosts 84-63 and also sweeping aside Sparta&K 81-57.

But arguably, the must important outcome was that the new kids on the block got to experience the kind of competition they will be facing for the first time this season.

Niki Lefkada will make their EuroCup Women debut on Tuesday, October 9 in the Qualifiers against Spartak Noginsk of Russia.
