MUNICH (Germany) - The 24-team field for the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 has been confirmed following the conclusion of the Qualifiers on Monday, with the final tickets claimed in the February 2021 window.
With 11 of the 24 spots in the 41st edition Europe's flagship basketball event formalized before the last two gamedays, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Netherlands, Russia, Serbia and Turkey were the last ones to stamp their participation to complete the list.
They joined seven teams - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Slovenia, Spain and Ukraine - that qualified in November 2020 and the four co-hosts Czech Republic, Germany, Georgia and Italy.
Scheduled to take place from September 1-18, 2022, the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 will feature four countries who did not take part in the previous edition in 2017.
It will be the first Final Round participation for Bulgaria in more than a decade, having last played in 2011. Meanwhile, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia and the Netherlands all competed in FIBA EuroBasket 2015 and return to the competition after a one-tournament absence.
Heading into FIBA EuroBasket 2022 as the defending champions, Slovenia extended their qualification streak to 14 consecutive tournaments after being one of the first teams to confirm their participation back in November.
This is the third time that the competition is co-hosted in four countries, with the multi-hosting format proving a major success when it was introduced in 2015 and then again in 2017.
The date and the venue of the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 draw will be announced at a later stage.
All teams that did not qualify for FIBA EuroBasket Final Round have earned the right to participate in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Pre-Qualifiers Second Round, set to take place in August 2021.
