ISTANBUL (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) - Saving the best for last in the Round of 16, Alexey Shved has taken out Top Performer honors after leading Russia to a surprisingly comfortable win over Croatia.
Shved showed his full wizardry against Croatia, finishing the night with 27 points and 12 assists, as what had been billed as a close encounter turned into a one-sided affair. By the time the final buzzer sounded, Shved had produced an efficiency rating 32.
Earlier in the day, Janis Timma jammed the stats-sheet with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists, good enough for an efficiency ranking of 28 as Latvia breezed into the competition's last eight. It also allowed him a spot on the Top Performers' starting five, alongside Shved.
Serbia were next up on court following Latvia, with center Ognjen Kuzmic leading the way in what was a relatively routine victory for the Olympic silver medalists. His 17-point, 10-rebound double-double amounted in an efficiency ranking of 26.
Representing the Saturday crowd on the team were Dennis Schroder and Anthony Randolph. The charismatic German point guard had 21 points and 8 assists as Germany upset France. In the mean time, Randolph produced arguably his best game in a Slovenian jumper, scoring 21 points as the 2013 FIBA EuroBasket hosts rolled on unbeaten.
