ISTANBUL (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) - Greece stunned Group B winners Lithuania in the Round of 16 to advance to the Quarter-Finals.
ISTANBUL (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) - Greece produced a boil over upsetting Group B winners Lithuania 77-64 to advance to the Quarter-Finals.
After struggling in the Group Phase and needing a victory over Poland to secure a spot to Istanbul, an inspired Greece dominated the Round of 16 clash from the get go through hot shooting and tenacious defense.
Lithuania made a run in the final quarter but Greece had all the answers to ensure they meet either Croatia or Russia in the final eight. It is the first time Lithuania miss out on the Quarter-Finals since 2009.
Turning point: Lithuania had all the momentum clawing the deficit to four points midway through the final period. However, Greece responded through a pretty post move by Ioannis Bourousis and then a three-pointer by Thanasis Antetokounmpo to thwart Lithuania's challenge.
Stats-don't-lie: Greece was deadly from long range converting on 11-of-24 from beyond the arc, while Lithuania were ice-cold all game, making just 6-of-24.
Game hero: Dynamic guard Kostas Sloukas was electric with 21 points, including draining 5-of-7 from three. He made clutch shots and also had 5 rebounds and 4 assists in a stellar all-round game.
They said: "Having him on my team, having us as a one-two punch... It's great to have that guy with us. He's a hell of a player, as everyone knows, and the stuff he's doing for the national team this year - he's really stepping up, filling in for those older guys like Spanoulis that left, and he's fitting right in." - Nick Calathes sharing his thoughts on Kostas Sloukas' performance.
