    El Salvador and Mexico obtain victories on first day

    SAN JOSE (2018 FIBA Americas U18) – El Salvador and Mexico were superior on the first day of the 2016 COCABA U16 Women’s Championship.

    SAN JOSE (2018 FIBA Americas U18) – El Salvador and Mexico were superior on the first day of the 2016 COCABA U16 Women’s Championship.

    El Salvador surpassed the host and claimed its first win of the championship, 52-45. Costa Rica won the first quarter, but from there on El Salvador took the top of the scoreboard and never let go, in what would become a slight but very important victory for the Salvadorian team. The top scorer for El Salvador was Kimberly Villalobos with 17 points.

    Mexico started the championship in dominating fashion after defeating Guatemala, 93-26. Mexico quickly established its dominance and power in the game, and went ahead 19-7 at the end of the first quarter. With four players scoring above 10 points, the Mexicans claimed their first victory of the regional tournament. The top scorer for Mexico was Sofia Payan with 19 points.

    Tomorrow, on the second day of the championship, El Salvador will take on Panama and Costa Rica will take on Guatemala.
