    Mexico claim Centrobasket U17 Women’s title in Aguada

    Mexico defeated Puerto Rico 83-77, to win the 2017 edition of the Centrobasket U17 Women’s Championship. El Salvador defeated Costa Rica to claim Bronze.

    AGUADA (FIBA U18 Women’s Americas Championship 2018) – Mexico defeated Puerto Rico 83-77, to win the 2017 edition of the Centrobasket U17 Women’s Championship. El Salvador defeated Costa Rica to claim Bronze.

    Puerto Rico took an early lead after a 21-15 first quarter. Mexico rebounded on time and dominated the second and third quarter to take a comfortable lead on the scoreboard. Puerto Rico discounted from the difference in the fourth quarter, but a three-pointer from Mexico stunned the Boricuas and stopped the comeback. Mexico celebrated the championship win. Sofia Payan led the scoring for the eventual champions with an amazing 36-point performance.

    Led offensively by 26 points from Kimberly Villalobos, El Salvador claimed the Bronze medal and the historic qualification to the FIBA U18 Women’s Americas Championship 2018.
