MIAMI (United States) – Groups D and B of BCL Americas’ third stage culminated with victories for Boca Juniors and São Paulo, respectively. Both teams had already secured their qualification for the Final 8, but they continued to fine-tune details for the decisive stage, which will be played between 6 and 9 of April.

UdeC 72 – 84 Boca Juniors
The Argentine team (4-2) closed the Group D calendar with a comfortable victory at the Casa del Deporte Gymnasium, in Concepción, Chile, against the local UdeC (0-6), who said goodbye to the tournament without a win.

Boca was very successful in their field goals throughout the match (58%) and in the second quarter they went on a 25-13 run for a 48-30 lead at halftime. Although UdeC managed to reduce the gap in the last stretch, they could not drop below double digits with three minutes to go.
Forward Adrián Boccia, with 14 points, led the attack for Boca Juniors who made nine three-pointers. Carlos Schattmann added 12, Eloy Vargas and Manuel Buendía had 11 each, and Tomás Cavallero 10.
The next assignment for the winners is to take care of the ball. Boca lost the ball 15 times which made them give up 24 points. For UdeC, Panamanian Ernesto Oglivie finished with 23 points followed by Jylan Washington with 13, Arnold Louis with 12 and Diego Silva with 10.
São Paulo 101 – 81 Nacional
In Group B, Sao Paulo (6-0) finished as the only undefeated in the entire Group Phase by beating Nacional (1-5) without major setbacks, on their home court, the Ginásio Dr. Nunes Galvão.
Power forward Bruno Caboclo gave another monster performance of 30 points (4 three-pointers), 16 rebounds, two steals and two blocks while his teammate, point guard Corderro Bennett, also scored 30, with 12 field goals in 14 attempts.
Nacional struggled in the first two quarters yet stayed close (24-19 and 40-32). But in the second half, São Paulo took off running the court (20-2 in points in transition) and attacked the key.
Veteran Shamell Stallworth also contributed well for the winners with 15 points and Henrique Coelho added 13, in the absence of Marquinhos Sousa and center Tyrone Curnell. Point guard Elinho Corazza finished with 10 assists.
For the Uruguayans, forwards Dominique Morrison and Quincy Miller contributed 29 and 18 points, respectively, but it was not enough for the squad that lost their chance to advance by losing to Quimsa the day before.

The third group stage continues this Monday as Obras Sanitarias will host Minas for Group C, in Buenos Aires, Argentina (20:00, local time) and Group A’s Edmonton Stingers will meet Cangrejeros (19:30, local time), at home in the Winsport Arena in Calgary, Canada.
