MANILA (Philippines) – One of the world's most iconic basketball courts at the famous Fort Bonifacio Tenement in Manila has been given a spectacular makeover as part of FIBA's 'Revamp My Court' initiative.

The court in Taguig is the focal point within the central courtyard of the complex and was chosen as the perfect place for a vibrant refurbishment. Now completed, it is expected to be very popular with fans and tourists, as well as providing a sustainable legacy for the future.

The revamp included esteemed local street artists creating a vibrant mural of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 mascot JIP. This continues a proud tradition over the years, with the Tenement Court having served as a canvas for striking murals of exceptional athletes, including Kobe Bryant and Hidilyn Diaz, the first Filipino Olympic gold medalist.

There were also repairs undertaken to the court floor and sidelines, backstop repainting, perimeter lighting and electrical work upgrades and enhancements to the perimeter cyclone fence and trench drain.

The project serves to further increase FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 awareness and fan engagement, especially in the host nations of the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.

"The basketball court serves as a powerful symbol of unity for people and nations, fostering an inclusive atmosphere that promotes peace and cooperation," said FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Chairman Richard Carrion.

"As long as they have a ball and a hoop, anyone, anywhere can play basketball. By revamping such an iconic court, we celebrate our ability to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries, uniting us all."

David Crocker, FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Executive Director, added: "We are thrilled to be working with talented local artists to bring the World Cup mascot to life in this exciting mural. JIP is an important symbol of the tournament, and we are confident that fans will love seeing it in this larger-than-life form."

Meanwhile, SBP President Al Panlilio commented: "Renovating a basketball court goes beyond aesthetics; it creates a positive and inviting space for the community to come together, engage in healthy activities, and strengthen social bonds. By investing in our courts, we're investing in the well-being and future of our neighborhoods."

As well as providing a sustainable FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 legacy, the 'Revamp My Court' project is also expected to further complement the global 'Win For All' campaign.
