Puerto Rico to rely on young core, announce 17-man preliminary list for the upcoming World Cup
SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - The Puerto Rico Basketball Federation (FBPUR) announced on Tuesday their 17-player preliminary list for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup.
SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - The Puerto Rico Basketball Federation (FBPUR) announced on Tuesday their 17-player preliminary list for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup. Puerto Rico bets on a young core, who for the most part lead the team during the FIBA Basketball World Cup Americas Qualifiers.

"This group is part of the rejuvenation that we have been working for the National Team with an eye on the future. In this case, we have the integration of two new players (Isaiah Piñeiro and Iván Gandía), who together with the veterans that have represented us internationally will provide the balance that we are looking for with this invitation," said FBPUR President, Yum Ramos.

"Many of these players played in some or all of the (FIBA Basketball World Cup) qualifying windows during the past two years since this new format started. That experience in this scenario is very important to include in our preparation," mentioned Puerto Rico Head Coach, Eddie Casiano.
Currently ranked 16th in the NIKE FIBA World Raking, Puerto Rico will play in its 14th FIBA Basketball World Cup with their best result coming in the 1990 edition with a 4th place finish. The island is set to play in Group C with FIBA Basketball World Cup 2006 champions Spain, Iran and Tunisia. Their FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 participation is set to tip off on August 31st when they face Iran.
