Slovenia name 22-man squad ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

LJUBLJANA (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers) - Slovenia have most of the players from their title-winning side at EuroBasket 2017 in a 22-strong preliminary squad for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers against Belarus and Spain.
The Slovenians host Belarus on November 24 in Ljubljana and then play Spain two days later in Burgos.

Luka Doncic, the 18-year-old sensation who made the All-Star Five at EuroBasket, sharpshooter Klemen Prepelic and center Gasper Vidmar are three of the headline names in the squad.
Slovenia, who climbed six spots to No. 7 in the FIBA World Ranking presented by NIKE after their title run in Istanbul, will also take on Montenegro in Group A of the Qualifiers.
Their first encounter against the Balkan side will be in the second of the six World Cup Qualifiers windows, on February 23.
Vidmar is a linchpin in the Slovenia team
In addition to Banvit big man Vidmar, there are two other players on the books of Basketball Champions League clubs that have been named in the preliminary squad.
One is Gregor Hrovat of Petrol Olimpija and the other is Matic Rebec of Enisey Krasnoyarsk.
Slovenia recently announced that Radovan Trifunovic will coach the team in the World Cup Qualifiers.
