Sloukas to join Greece for crunch European Qualifiers against Serbia, Georgia

ATHENS (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers) - Kostas Sloukas is ready to bolster the Greece national team for September's World Cup European Qualifiers against Serbia and Georgia.

ATHENS (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers) - An already strong Greece side that has won six times in as many FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers is to become even more formidable in September with Kostas Sloukas announcing his intention to join the side.

The veteran guard, Greece's premier three-point marksman at FIBA EuroBasket 2017, will be available for the Second Round, Group L home clash with Serbia on September 13, and the game at Georgia three days later.

The 28-year-old has already had a lot of good summers with the national team. His best may have been in 2017 when he shot 58.6 percent (17 of 29) from behind the arc and averaged a team-high 14.9 points per game.

In two of the last three games in particular, Sloukas went on a tear, drilling a combined 10 of 13 from deep in wins over Poland (95-77) and then Lithuania (77-64). The win over the Lithuanians was in the Round of 16.

    ...

Even without Sloukas, Greece have been hugely impressive to move within touching distance of a spot in the first-ever 32-team edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup which will take place in China next year.

In the First Round of the Qualifiers, the Greeks beat Great Britain twice, Israel twice and Estonia twice.

The other team in Group L that the Greeks will face, Germany, is also 6-0. Those two sides will not meet for the first time until November 30 in Greece.
