TORONTO (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers) - As Cameroon continue competing for a place at next year's FIBA Basketball World Cup in China, Pascal Siakam reaffirms his interest in playing for his country.
While his older brother Boris Siakam has featured for Cameroon at FIBA AfroBasket 2015, younger Pascal, who is having a breakthrough season for the NBA Toronto Raptors, is yet to wear the 'Lion Indomitables' yellow-green-red jersey.
And although Siakam only started playing basketball in his teens, he admits that his national team ranks high on his bucket list.
"I WOULD LIKE TO PLAY FOR THE SENIOR NATIONAL TEAM. IT'S ONE OF MY CAREER GOALS AND IT IS ON MY MIND. EVERY PLAYER WANTS TO REPRESENT HIS COUNTRY AT INTERNATIONAL LEVEL AND I WOULD LIKE TO DO SO TOO" - Siakam
Siakam's addition to Carlos Barbosa's side would be a huge boost.
They will head to the second-leg of Group A of the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers in June-July on the back of a 2-1 mark.
Last November, Cameroon outscored Guinea, needed to step up to overcome a resilient Chad side, and eventually fell short to reigning African champions Tunisia in the last day of the competition.
Sooner rather than later, the 6ft9in (2.06m) forward insists, the basketball world will see him showcasing his highly-praised talent with his native Cameroon.
