    Japan, Australia, Chinese Taipei, and China claim last spots at #FIBAU19 Women's World Cup

    BENGALURU (India) - Japan, Australia, Chinese Taipei, and China all secure the final spots to play at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2023.

    BENGALURU (India) - Japan, Australia, Chinese Taipei, and China all secure the final spots to play at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2023 which will be held in Madrid, Spain at the end of the Group Phase at the FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship 2022.

    Australia, Japan, and Chinese Taipei are all returning to make another appearance at the U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup after playing in the 2019 edition in Belarus. Meanwhile, China will be making a return after missing out in the previous edition, their first ever in competition history. 

    The Gems have never missed a U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup and are coming off two straight Final appearances. Australia have won the U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup title once and the tournament next year will make the 30 year anniversary since that happen.

    Japan will be making their fourth straight U19 Women’s World Cup appearance and their 11thappearance in total. Their best finish was in 2017 when they made it all the way to the Semi-Finals to end up at 4th place. 

    Chinese Taipei are making a consecutive appearance in the first time ever at the U19 Women’s World Cup, making this their 5th time ever playing in the global meet. 

    Meanwhile, China will be making a return to the U19 Women’s World Cup after missing the competition for the first time ever in 2021. China are set to make their 14th appearance in the event with their best finish at 4th place being in 1985. 

    These four national squads complete the 16-team cast of the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2023. They join the other qualified teams which are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Mali, USA, and hosts Spain.

    These four teams will continue to play in the Semi-Finals of the U18 Women’s Asian Championship, as they are all still in the running for a place on the podium.
