Australia claim second consecutive FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship
AMMAN (Jordan) - Australia beat Japan, 59-58, in the Final to claim the FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship 2022 title, while Korea defeated New Zealand in the battle for third place.
AMMAN (Jordan) - Australia beat Japan, 59-58, in the Final to claim the FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship 2022 title, while Korea defeated New Zealand in the battle for third place.
Australia won their second straight U16 Asian Championship title by beating Japan who were making their sixth straight Final appearance. It was the second straight Final for these two teams as well the second straight time that the games were decided by one point. Jayda Clark stepped up in the clutch for Australia with 2 free-throws in the final seconds to reclaim the lead and come away with the championship.
Meanwhile, Korea returned to a top three finish for the first time since 2015 with a 78-59 win over New Zealand.
India finished at 5th place after failing to qualify for the Semi-Finals.
Australia, Japan, Korea, ad New Zealand are qualified for the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 which will be played in Debrecen, Hungary from 9-17 July.
