Div B Classification: Jordan finish fifth, Guam place seventh
AMMAN (Jordan) - Jordan secured a fifth-place finish while Guam settled for seventh after beating their respective opponents in the classification phase, Friday at the Prince Hamzah Sport Hall.
AMMAN (Jordan) - Jordan got past Singapore, 62-56, to finish fifth in the FIBA U16 Women's Asian Championship 2023-Division B, Friday night at the Prince Hamzah Sport Hall.
The tandem of Hoor and Zena Alkarain delivered down the stretch, with the former nailing the dagger triple with 23.1 seconds left before the latter pushed their lead to nine a few moments later to secure the team's best finish since the competition adopted the two-division format in 2017.
Hoor finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Zena produced a full line of 15 markers, 4 boards, 5 assists, a steal, and a block in the hard-fought victory.
Top-scoring for Jordan was Rosine Shamieh with 20 points, together with 6 rebounds and a game-high 5 of the team's 27 steals for an efficiency rating of 19.0.
Tricia Lau carried the fight for Singapore with 20 points.
Meanwhile, Guam concluded their first-ever U16 Women's Asian Championship-Division B campaign with a 65-54 victory over Maldives in the curtain-raiser of the classification round.
Key stops down the stretch were all enough to help the crew overcome their hard-fighting foes, who came within just seven points, 49-56, after being down by as much as 26.
Jia Rose Peters finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 5 assists for Guam, who will finish the tournament at seventh place (1-3) following the victory in the classification opener.
Cadence Guzman and Franchesca Aguilar chipped in 10 markers in the win.
Maldives, on the other hand, were carried by the 27 points and 8 rebounds of Mariyam Kyleen Shiran in the gallant fightback. They will finish the tilt at eighth place.
