This year's edition will be the fifth staging of the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, with China and Australia making return trips after also qualifying for the 2016 edition. The Philippines will make their second appearance at the competition, while this will be the first time New Zealand's U16 Tall Blacks will see action.
Both China and Australia have qualified to every staging of the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, with the Crocs finishing in second place overall in 2012 and 2014, while China are always among the top 10 teams. The Filipinos saw action in 2014 and finished 15th overall.
These four national squads complete the 16-team cast of the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2018, which will be from 30 June to 8 July in the cities of Rosario and Santa Fe in Argentina. They join a cast that include the hosts, four-time champions United States and 2016 runners-up Turkey.
The results of the Quarter-Finals today also sent these four teams to the Semi-Finals, and all of them are still in the running for a place on the FIBA U16 Asia podium. Their placings in the FIBA U16 Asian Championship will determine in which group they will be drawn at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup.
