VALDIVIA (FIBA Americas U18 Women's Championship 2016) - USA added another FIBA Americas U18 Women's Championship after defeating Canada in the Final. Meanwhile, Brazil earned Bronze after earning a win over Puerto Rico.
USA successfully defended its U18 title after defeating Canada, 109-62, in the Gold-Medal Match of the continental title. The teams fought evenly during the first quarter, but USA took over the game with a 28-14 second quarter. The defending champs kept adding as they dominated the third quarter 33-14. Canada discounted some points during the last quarter, but the victory and the gold-medal belonged to the USA.

Lauren Cox was elected as the MVP of the tournament after leading USA to the title.
Brazil finished with the third position of the FIBA Americas Women’s Championship after defeating Puerto Rico, 70-64. The Brazilians had a better start of the game and won the first quarter, 17-12. The second quarter went to the Boricuas, but the Brazilians had better rhythm on the third quarter and produced the advantage that will give them the win. Puerto Rico kept fighting and decreased the difference, but time played against the Caribbean team and the Bronze Medal went to Brazil.

Mexico ended the FIBA Americas U18 Women’s Championship on fifth place, after defeating Chile, 85-51. After being tied at the end of the first quarter, Mexico started to dominate the action after a 19-12 second quarter. Mexico kept adding to the impressive lead after a 34-13 third quarter. The Mexicans never looked back and took fifth place.

Venezuela took seventh place after defeating Guatemala, 77-64. The Venezuelans jumped to the lead early on, and remained on top of the scoreboard during the whole game. Guatemala got within 4 points of the Venezuelans, but the South Americans always found a way to answer and add to the lead. The top scorer for Venezuela was Guadalupe Diaz who added an impressive 31 points in the victory.
