    ST CATHARINES (FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2018) – USA won the FIBA U18 Americas 2018 gold medal over Canada by the score of 113-74. Quentin Grimes, who had 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the game, was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the event.

     

    Canada had a better start in the battle of unbeaten teams, but USA took over and dominated every aspect of the game. The team coached by Bill Self had a 28-point lead at half-time. Canada tried to fight back, but USA’s power in the paint provided a comfortable route to easy baskets. Canada accumulated turnovers, and USA’s long rotation maintained high energy on the court.

    Andrew Nembhard (CAN), Cole Anthony (USA), Alec White (USA), Quentin Grimes (USA) and Francisco Caffaro (ARG) were selected to the FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2018 All-Star Five.

    Argentina took home the FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2018 Bronze Medal after overcoming a 15-point deficit to defeat Puerto Rico 87-79. Jose Placer had a marvelous start and led Puerto Rico to a 15-point lead during the first half, with 18 points during the first half. The Argentinians reacted and cut the difference down to 8 points at half-time. Argentina slowly but surely cut the difference and took control of the scoreboard after a 26-13 fourth quarter. Marco Giordano and Francisco Caffaro led the scoring for Argentina with 21 points each.

    In the Reclassification Round, Chile defeated the Dominican Republic 69-63 and finished the continental championship with 5th place. Panama claimed 7th place following a 66-51 win over Ecuador.
