MAPUTO (FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup 2018) - Ferroviario de Maputo point guard Amelia Macamo put up a Player-Of-The-Match performance dropping 13 points, six steals, six assists and five rebounds to guide her side to a memorable 72-59 win over First Bank to book a ticket to the Final on Sunday at Maxaquene Stadium.
The 33-year old led from the back court on both offense and defense at crucial moments in the game to hand the hosts a huge boost in a highly contested game in the first three quarters and ultimately a place at the big stage on Sunday.
Captain Ingvild Macauro led by example with 16 points, five steals and five rebounds while Carmen Virginia Tyson-Thompson on a very big night for her dropped 16 points and picked five rebounds.
"IT WAS A VERY TOUGH GAME AND WE HAD TO STAY FOCUSED. WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULT AND NOW WE HAVE A CHANCE TO FIGHT FOR THE TROPHY."
Macauro admitted that indeed it was a very tough game and they had to keep fighting and it counted that they played solid defense that helped them a lot.
She explained that,"We knew it was going to be tough because these are the players that we supported during the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup so we knew how good they are but this year Ferroviario does not give up easily and we fight till the end and today we emerged victorious."
In agreement, Cossa highlighted this and said, "It was a very tough game and we had to stay focused. We are very happy with the result and now we have a chance to fight for the trophy."
First Bank point guard Jasmine Nwajei scored a game high 24 points while forwards Aisha Mohammed and Ginette Mfutila only managed six and five in that order for the 'Elephant Girls' and for this Ferroviario de Maputo have Deolinda Gimo and Odelia Mafanela to thank in the paint.
Ferroviario de Maputo will now meet five-time record African champions InterClube in a repeat of the 2016 Final here in Maputo with the hosts looking to win their first ever continental trophy.
