CONAKRY (FIBA U18 African Championship 2018) - Senegal became the latest team to qualify for this year's FIBA U18 African Championship.

After beating neighboring Guinea 70-44 in Game 1 in Conakry on Tuesday, Senegal maintained their dominance with a 67-53 win on Thursday, and as a result, they secured the only spot on offer for FIBA Africa Zone 2 teams for the Finals, which will be held in Bamako, Mali, from August 24 - September 2.

This is a highly significant moment for Senegal basketball as it marks the return of the country to the U18 African Championship for the first time since 2012.

After winning the 2012 edition of the competition held in Maputo, Mozambique, and secured a place at FIBA Basketball U19 World  Championship 2013 in the Czech Republic, Senegal missed out the following two editions of the FIBA U18 African Championship.

Teams qualified so far include hosts Mali, reigning champions Angola, Egypt, Tunisia, Rwanda, and Madagascar.

Angola won the FIBA U18 African Championship 2016 in Kigali.

The finalists of the FIBA U18 African Championship 2018 will earn the right to represent the continent at FIBA Basketball U19 World Cup 2019.
